The collective efforts of the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) headed by Gov. Manuel C. Ortega, La Union Provincial Police Office (LUPPO) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) paid off as they discovered and arrested two drug pushers yesterday, September 4, 2008.

The two drug pushers were apprehended in front of the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University – Mid-La Union Campus (DMMMSU-MLUC), yesterday at around 11 o’clock in the morning. They were presented by LUPPO, headed by P/SR/SUPT. Noli G. Taliño, to Governor Ortega at the Capitol Building, hours after their arrest. Jul Picar from Taguig, Metro Manila and Al Flores from Sto. Rosario, San Juan, La Union were under the surveillance of the police; allegedly selling drugs for almost a year now.

Governor Ortega, whose aim is to make La Union peaceful and drug-free, interviewed the two. Saying that no bail can settle their case, Governor Manoling ordered Picar and Flores to tell their “colleagues” to leave La Union. “That was my first order: to bust all drug syndicates in La Union!” Governor Manoling commanded.

Also, the blessing and turn-over of PNP patrol vehicles from the provincial government to the different local government units was done at the Capitol grounds.

Fr. Froilan Saluta blessed two Honda big bikes, three Toyota Altis cars and a Toyota Hilux. The two big bikes and two Toyota Altis were given to the City of San Fernando, received by Mayor Pablo C. Ortega and Vice Mayor Panding Nisce. The Toyota Hilux was awarded to the municipality of Aringay, represented by their ABC President, Mr. Ramon B. Medriano; and the other Toyota Altis was given to the municipality of Bauang, received by Vice Mayor Bonifacio Malinao.
